The next neighborhood we are going to explore in our series will be the Memorial Villages area. Memorial is located west of downtown Houston and to the northwest of uptown Houston. It is surrounded by the Buffalo Bayou on the south, I-610 on the east, State Highway 6 on the west and the Katy Freeway on the north. In the early 1930’s many wealthy families had large homes on the land in this area. As time progressed much of the land was sold and homes were being built on them to accommodate suburban growth.
Development began in the 1950’s and has progressed well over four decades into an attractive and popular area home to some public figures. Memorial has grown to be one of Houston’s most expensive neighborhoods with homes being sold well into the millions. The housing styles are all unique, and there are some bungalows and cottages as well as townhomes and condominiums.
The neighborhood has been ranked as one of Houston’s Best Public Schools. Along with that accolade, this school zone has some of the best ranked schools in Texas. If that wasn’t a good value for family, they also have spacious lots which is why many families prefer the Memorial area compared to properties in the Inner Loop, respectively. Memorial is in a great location for schools, stores, restaurants, parks and entertainment for the whole family. There are also many family oriented parks such as: Memorial Park, Bendwood Park, Nottingham Park and Terry Hershey Park.
